Throughout my time in British politics, I stumbled upon many white supremacists who supported the the Confederate States (U.S. Civil War), because of the South's supposed love of slavery. In reality, this was not what the U.S. Civil War was fought over, and this is another example of how history is written (and rewritten) by the victors. I strongly recommend reading, The Politically Incorrect Guide To The Civil War, by H.W. Crocker III.
You will likely be shocked by the true character of President Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln said the following in one of the Lincoln-Douglas debates:
"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors out of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe forever forbid the two races living together in terms of social and political equality; and in as much as they cannot so live. While they do not remain together, there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."
It would have actually been much more appropriate for those white supremacists to have supported Abraham Lincoln ("The North" - for the Brits), since he ran the country as a dictator (as did Adolph Hitler), and he held contempt towards "inferior" races. He merely freed the slaves to financially cripple The Confederacy. In fact, the war was won by starving the Southern states, despite the South having won most of the battles, and despite the Southerners being typically outnumbered 3-to-1.
