Political correctness has been used as a stick with which to beat people who do not conform to the latest leftist dogma. However, it is opposed by those that it pretends to help.

Political correctness aka Cultural Marxism came out of the Frankfurt School in Germany in the 1920s. George Orwell (1984) and Aldous Huxley (Brave New World) likely had some insight into what was going to happen down the road.

Just a comment about the South and the Democrats. Then, as now, there were certainly different levels of bigotry worldwide. After traveling through the country in the 1830s, Frenchman Alexis de Tocqueville (Democracy in America), noted racism was much worse in the North than in the South. Some of the early Democrats actually believed in decentralized government as well--something you are unlikely to find in the modern Democratic Party. Also, one of the main reasons the Republican Party was anti-slavery/slavery expansion was because they wanted the West to be settled by Whites only. This can be found in correspondence between Horace Greeley and Abraham Lincoln and from the comments of William Seward and others. In Emancipation after Colonization, Sebastian Page and Phillip Magness found information in British archives that indicated Lincoln, shortly before his death, was still trying to figure out how to deport Blacks.
